NEWS: The Ensemble "Umberto Giordano" pays tribute to Giuseppe Verdi

GIANNA FRATTA - She graduated in piano (10/10), composition (10/10) and, when she was 26 years old, in conducting (10/10 cum laude) at the “N. Piccinni” Music Conservatory in Italy - Bari. She subsequently was awarded the diploma of honour at the Accademia Chiagiana in Siena during the specialising course led by the Russian conductor Yuri Ahronovitch. He wrote about Gianna “I’ve never known a musician so gifted with heart and arms”.
She starts her career as pianist winning a lot of international piano competitions and playing both in Italy and abroad; her public conducting debut took place in 1998 with the Bari Symphonic Orchestra in a performance of Strawinsky’s ballet “Pulcinella” and has regularly been conducting in the symphonic and operatic repertoires ever since (Giordano, Rossini, Piccinni, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Puccini, Verdi, Mozart ecc.). She conducted such orchestras as Berliner Symphoniker, Macao Symphony Orchestra, Toscanini Orchestra in Parma, Orchestra of the Opera Theatre in Rome, Russian Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Besancon France-Comtè, Florence Sinfonietta, Orchestra “G. Da Venosa” in Potenza, Sofia Festival Orchestra, Orchestre de l’Ille de France, “Orchestra Sinfonica di Capitanata”, Orchestra “Mimesis Maggio Arte” in Florence, “Orchestra Sinfonica della Radio e Televisione Albanese”, Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia, Orchestra Sinfonica New Filarmonia, Royal Accademy Orchestra in London, Cappella Istropolitana di Bratislava, Orchestra dell’Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese, National Orchestra of Kiev, Simphonic Orchestra of Sanremo, Grosseto, Lanciano and many others.
As pianist or conductor she performs in a lot of cities (London, Sidney, Tel Aviv, Istanbul, Stoccolma, Vilnius, Roma, Milano, Bruxelles, Antibes, Besancon, Tirana, Budapest, Haifa, Lion, Mumbay, Kolkatta, Seoul ecc.).
She studied and worked with great conductors such as D. Renzetti, B. Bartoletti, Y. Ahronovitch, P. Bellugi that wrote about her : “…her unusual musicality united to an iron discipline, her temperament and her solid technique as conductor make Gianna a brilliant promise in this field…”.
Three years ago she participated in “Donatella Flick Conducting Competition” in London and she was semifinalist, receiving good judgement of the jury and in September 2007 she was the only Italian conductor finalist (4° position) in the 50° conducting competition in Besancon (France) among 200 conductors from all the world.
In 2003 she wins the prize “Bacchette in rosa” (“pink baton”) at the end of a course organized by Regione Toscana and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, coming first between fifty women conductors of all Europe.
In 2007 she wins the first prize in “Hight school of conducting” ; the jury was composed by Bruno Bartoletti, Donato Renzetti, Jorma Panula, Lu-Jia.
In January 2006 she conducted the opera “The King” of Umberto Giordano, that received very good reviews on the famous Italian musical review “Opera”; of this performance the record company Bongiovanni in Bologna has published the first DVD in the world (May 2009).
She records for “N&A”, “Velut Luna”, Budapest live and Bongiovanni, both as pianist and conductor.
Graduated in law, she is a professor of composition in the “U. Giordano” Music Conservatory of Foggia.
On 7th March 2009 the President of Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano gave her the prize "In honour of merit" for her international career attributing to her the honour of Work Knight of the Italian Republic.
